No one could sit on Santa's lap. Probably a permanent change brought on by Covid I imagine. Who knows. Maybe it will change. But Jackson didn't want to talk to him or even really look at him. There is no way I could have forced him onto his lap. Always so fun to go see Santa and get into the Christmas spirit.
And of course the photo ops and lights are just amazing at Riverwoods. Love it so much.
They even handed out free carousel rides when we saw Santa too. So cool!
So, we had booked a weekend to St. George just to try it out. We were considering not going because the weather didn't look good down there but I told Brandon we should just try it out anyway and have a winter trip down there. I kept telling the kids it was a winter trip and they needed to bring warm clothes and we wouldn't be swimming, just getting in the hot tub, etc etc. Brandon didn't even bring a short sleeved shirt with him. He regretted that ha ha.
The first night we were there it felt pretty cold, like walking to the hot tub and stuff. We wanted to dry off by the fire. But the kids got in the pool too and it was actually decently heated.
We were only there for the weekend, like after school on Friday and we came back Sunday. The kids didn't have to miss any school and oh my heck, it was just the trip of a lifetime. It was so fun. We got a dozen donuts from pinkbox and headed to Dixie Rock on Saturday.
I was so excited to show them the slot canyon Deanne had showed me the month before. We found it right away, and Mckinley, Tyler and I went through it. It was a tight squeeze and challenging but so so fun! Kallie was terrified of it. Ava wasn't interested and of course Jackson never would. So we went through and then I went back with Brandon but in the end he felt like it was too tight and he didn't do it. I think he could have made it through and I'm hoping he will try again on our next trip down there.
This is up on top at the end of the slot canyon.
We had an absolute blast exploring new parts of Dixie Rock or I guess Pioneer Park is technically where we were. But it was so fun and we got warm enough that we all took off our jackets. I was so surprised we were enjoying such good weather in December! It was crazy but so awesome.
We found the little cave I had discovered on my girls trip. It was so fun to show all this stuff to the kids and Brandon.
We ate lunch at Costo and then headed to Thunder Junction to play and ride the train. We had a great time!
Headed over to the nature reserve as well and saw ducks and some turtles off in the distance.
The kids were just dying to go back and go swimming! Which was so funny because I just hadn't planned on any swimming for this trip at all. But man, we had such a fun time! The pool was not bad at all. It was amazing.
Someone we met in the hot tub told us about a little light parade that was happening in La Verkin at 5:30 so we rushed out of the pool to go to it and then ended up waiting there till after 6 till it finally started, ha ha.
The parade was pretty underwhelming but it made for a great memory.
We were supposed to go to a free play at the Tuachan, some Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer thing, but because of the light parade we ended up deciding not to do the Tuachan. Then later we found out it was cancelled because of sick cast members so we were REALLY glad we didn't go, because we wouldn't have found out in time and would have wasted so much time and gas driving out there. Phew! Love when things work out. Seems they rarely do.
Sunday we did more swimming and also went and hiked the Red Cliffs Trail again. My absolute favorite and every bit as good as it was the first time. Better actually because the weather was so phenominal! Love love love this hike.
Swung by the dinosaur footprints again on our way out.
Sunday was the best weather of all and it wasn't even cold walking around in a swimming suit. I feel like this trip was just an absolute gift.
Poor Mckinley who can never sleep on road trips. Everyone else was out cold on the way home. :)
