Brandon and I have never planned and taken a trip all on our own, just the two of us and our kids, until now. We always just go along with family reunions, or Disney trips with family members, stuff like that. Of course we have gone to St. George on our own numerous times, but that is kind of such an easy trip that I feel like it doesn't really count.
I have really been wanting to go on a trip with just us, and we finally planned it and made it happen, thanks to the encouragement of some friends. This was a big deal for us.
So on a Saturday we got up and started the drive! We made a stop in Cedar City for some yummy donuts.
Jackson is such a good traveler! He just chills. Or sleeps. Really doesn't complain very much. He had been potty training for a couple of weeks when we went on this trip and I made him wear a pull up for the drive. He was like "why am I wearing this?" But he was obedient and wore it, and never had any accidents the whole trip! So on the way home we let him drive home in underwear and we only ended up stopping once in Vegas for gas and lunch and that was it. He did amazing!
I just love the beauty all around us! This is just past St. George where you drive through a tiny bit of Arizona.
We booked a hotel in Carlsbad so the drive wouldn't be quite as long. Our hotel was super close to Carlsbad beach and to Lego Land so it worked out great. the hotel was a little older and the pool was tiny, but it had an amazing breakfast so it made up for it.
We headed out that night and got some food and then drove to the beach to take a look.
The kids were so excited when I showed them how to find sand crabs. It was so exciting to take them to the beach for the first time. The three oldest had been when they were little but never to actually swim in it and none of them remembered it.
Loved the sunsets every night!
